News from Our Website (Correspondents: Zhang Xingwei, Chang Wandi) On the morning of June 11, Professor Yao Yonggang from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was invited to our university to deliver an academic lecture at the 2026 High-end Forum for First-class Disciplines of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The lecture was presided over by Professor Xiong Qingang, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy.
Professor Yao delivered a lecture entitled "High-Entropy Alloy Catalysts". Addressing the key challenges in catalysis — including the complex composition and interactions of multi-component alloys, difficulties in structural regulation, challenges in enhancing activity and stability, and the elusive structure-activity relationships — he proposed a novel strategy for constructing heterogenized and isomerized multi-component alloys. Professor Yao lucidly analyzed the working mechanism of high-entropy alloy catalysts and systematically elaborated on the practical applications of high-entropy materials in hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, controllable spillover, and cascade catalysis. Bringing this cutting-edge concept from the laboratory to a broader audience, the lecture unveiled the mystery of high-entropy catalysis technology for the faculty and students in this seminar.

During the discussion session, Professor Yao engaged in in-depth exchanges with attending faculty and students on topics including the design and modulation of high-entropy alloy catalysts and research on their application performance. He meticulously and patiently addressed the challenges and confusions encountered by faculty and students in their research practice, offering valuable research insights and directions for studies in related fields.
This academic lecture was co-organized by the School of Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy, the Office of Development Planning and Discipline Construction, and the Graduate School.
